Ethereum versus Ripple

I don't think that Ripple will necessarily "win out" over Ether. Hopefully they both win out.

Ripple and Ethereum have found two of the best alternative applications for the blockchain-consensus-ledger. Which is why they're #2 and #3 on the marketcap right now. They both have potential, but aren't really competing with each other.

XRP is doing great right now because a lot of banks are signing on, and they're getting validated by governments, and have planned an escrow management of their (huge) share of XRP. This is giving them a lot of credibility. The team seems like one of the most professional in the crypto world. It's blazingly fast, and transactions are super cheap. But they are centralized, and XRP's value isn't directly tied in to Ripple's - but rather to what Market Makers will require for cheap bank transfers.

ETH also has a lot of potential, and is probably one of the crypto's with the most developers working on it for all kinds of applications. It only needs one real killer app to jump to mass adoption. But currently it isn't there yet. Ethereum is faster than Bitcoin, but still not very fast. Contracts and on-chain computations are cheap-ish, but not "Internet of Things" cheap. I still think Ethereum will be a staple crypto for years to come.

Right now however, Ripple's success metrics seem way better than Ethereum's. Ripple is not only seeing significant real world use, but this use is by banks who necessarily hold Ripple to a high standard. In comparison Ethereum's real world use cases are still in mostly in development.

Maybe this is the ETH "killer app" that you mention?

Reggie Middleton is launching a new real world use on the back of Ethereum with hid new fenture,Veritaseum. See here: http://veritas.veritaseum.com/

It's way too complex for a newbie like me to understand but Reggie has a lot of success under his belt with his previous ventures. He's a VERY switched on guy and was the founder of the Boom Bust Blog. I've been following his interviews on shows/channels like RT, Max Keiser Report.

Lots of videos on YouTube where he explains the Veritaseum concept:

The Veritas ICO (tokens) is currently underway. Although I don't understand all of the ins and outs of this platform I somehow suspect that this concept will be of use to professionals in this field. Might be worth a very speculative punt.
