Vermont House Bill 182 was passed, making a change to state laws to account for digital currencies. The bill updates Vermont's money transmission rules with a virtual currency definition.
This means money transmitter are now allowed to hold digital currency as a "permissible investment" as long as "outstanding transmission obligations received by the licensee in identical denomination of virtual currency."
This is the second time Vermont has passed legislation for digital currency. Last year, Vermont passed a measure allowing blockchain records to be admissible in court.
